LEEDS - Free Music Festival
24th
Nov aimed at Leeds students but open to public. The Free
Festival is a side project designed to attract a wide number
of people to the idea of Buy Nothing Day who would normally
shy away from environmental campaigns. There will be 12
musical acts, a performance poet, free food and activities
all held in the upstairs room of a well known pub opposite
the university. The idea is that people will enjoy and remember
the event and perhaps consider having a less consumer-crazy
Christmas.

LONDON
We will be filming the event for our new eco video website
www.eco-tube.com
which launches the same week – we hope to get some
news programmes to feature the film. Probably we will do
the zombie mask concept – plus a checkout blockade!
I now have over 20 people already committed and my target
is 50 plus.
Any interested parties please email chris@conscience-uk.com
LONDON - Got a sofa you no longer
want? Looking for a wardrobe? Want to swap spare spoons
for a new necklace?
Then come along to a free Give or Take Day at the Orchard
Estate Community Hall, Broadmead Rd, Woodford Green on Saturday,
November 24th between 12 and 3pm.
The Give or Take Day, organised by Forest Recycling Project
in partnership with Redbridge Council, is a community waste
exchange event – a chance for you to get rid of furniture
and bric-a-brac you don’t need and to pick up something
you do need. And it is all free.
The event provides an opportunity to reduce waste by reusing
furniture instead of throwing it away. This saves on landfill
space and reduces fly tipping, and also contributes towards
saving valuable resources. It also offers people on low
incomes the chance to pick up furniture and other household
items they may need.
The Forest Recycling Project is a community
recycling group in Walthamstow that offers recycling advice
and collections to local people and organisations.
For those unable to make it on the day, Forest Recycling
Project has created an online waste exchange facility, go
to www.giveortake.org
Journalists and photographers are invited to attend. For
further media information contact Brian
Kelly on 8539 3856.

means to highlight excessive consumerism in today’s
Western culture. This event is part of an initiative to
reduce consumption by Transition Brighton and Hove, a group
of volunteers aiming to start a city-wide community response
to the challenges of climate change and peak oil.
